Solace
The Story:
I also wrote this song during my time in California. I was actually just exploring the key, and in my play, I ended up writing the "chorus” of the song. I loved this part, which is just a basic chord progression played in various inversions, with a few 7th, 8ths, and 9ths here and there. I loved it so much, for probably weeks, I would just play the chorus, really feeling it, really enjoying it. Eventually, I decided that I wanted the chorus to be the point that everything was built to, so I started breaking down its progression into smaller parts as the main verses, which further broke down between themselves in steps.
Originally, the name was supposed to relate to Eclipse or an ellipse shape, but I’m not sure I had a meaning for it and just liked the word. I landed on “Solace”, because I feel like it is a track that offers grace, comfort, consolation, and even compassion that solitude offers us.
