Ode To Human

The Story:
I wrote this book to accompany my first book, Human.
It is the first musical piece I wrote, while living in Toronto. I hadn’t been playing piano for very long, so I kept it fairly simple. It’s written in the key of C, and has a very soft and reflective mood, much like the book and my tone of writing.

During this time of my life, piano was a safe space for me. It was a place I could return to when I needed to be heard, seen, or even just to feel safe with the many contradictory and explosive emotions I had been feeling at the time, all of the things I was carrying. This reminds me of something a friend once told me… when we choose to feel, we choose to heal.

I didn’t know how to read/write music, and still don’t. So when I wanted to play it at Transform The Night, I had to dig deep to find the soul memory of this track within me. In fact, when I performed it at the show it was slightly different than the originaly, because I couldn’t find the transition into the final part of the song.

I played this song while promoting “Human” on a Canada-wide tour, from coast-to-coast.

Pictures to follow…
