Livin’ For
The Story
In a moment of not feeling good enough, I began writing this song because I was scared and thought giving up would be easier. But obviously, it was not easy, because by the second verse, I was finding a place of empowerment in knowing that my journey doesn’t have to be like that of others, and that I can use this as a gift to change the world. There are hints of feeling unseen and unheard, that are connected to those of us who bear the brunt of this in an unjust system. There is a want to break free, questioning what we’ve been taught about the workings of the world, and if surrendering to change is possible.
Lyrics
The dream is fadin’
The flashes overrated
I had to see it for myself
To know I can’t be bought.
The dream surrenders
I can’t help but wonder
Who said I had to let it go
To pave my own road
[Chorus]
Am I the only one who feels the calm beneath the storm?
Am I the only one who sees human’s silent war?
I don’t want to be another a pawn in this world
Will someone care to tell me what exactly we’re livin’ for?
The talking points are weak
The truth we cannot speak
is alive in the safety of the streets
Until we can’t meet
Deep in the shadows they lie
waitin’ to stomp on our pride
We’re getting, closer
this is far from over
[Chorus]
Am I the only one who feels the calm beneath the storm?
Am I the only one who sees human’s silent war?
I don’t want to be another a pawn in this world
Will someone care to tell me what exactly we’re livin’ for?
Lost in the dreams,
inside of me
Trapped in the stories,
they don’t see
We’re not just, characters,
We’re here to be remembered
Am I the only one?
Am I the only one?
Am I the only one who feels?
[Chorus]
Am I the only one who feels the calm beneath the storm?
Am I the only one who sees human’s silent war?
I don’t want to be another a pawn in this world
Will someone care to tell me what exactly we’re livin’ for?
